Theme of exhibition: EMPATHY

This textile work portrays the joy of free beagles—running, playing, existing without fear. Beagles are among the dogs most widely used in vivisection. Gentle and trusting, they are bred on industrial farms across the world for experiments testing cosmetics, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. After years confined to cages, subjected to procedures, most are killed. They live without grass beneath their paws, without toys, without affection. Mothers are reduced to production; puppies are treated as objects.

By depicting them in freedom, I reclaim their dignity and imagine the life denied to them, their true habitat. This work seeks to awaken empathy and collective responsibility, urging a shift toward ethical, modern research methods that do not rely on animal suffering.

Structure:
Soft textile composition created on a stretched, primed Italian fabric canvas (70% cotton / 30% synthetic) mounted on a wedged softwood stretcher frame.

Materials:
100% Italian white cotton for the background, German backing, Felt, 100% cotton sewing threads and Madeira embroidery threads

Technical Description:
Made from leftover atelier fabrics and threads, this textile uses free-motion embroidery and hand stitched appliqué.
