Textile Concept: “At the Spring”

The project At the Spring explores the spring as a living symbol of inner purification, renewal, and the fundamental bond between the human being and nature. The movement toward the spring becomes a movement inward—toward silence, toward the memory of purity, toward the primordial state of the soul. The act of cleaning the spring transforms into a metaphor for releasing what accumulates within us: fear, fatigue, stagnation, and inner heaviness. Flowing water embodies renewal, while stagnation reflects a loss of harmony.

In the philosophy underlying this work, the small, gushing spring represents the Divine Center that guides life—a point where the invisible begins to manifest through the visible. Life is understood as a gradual unfolding of blessing, revealing gifts inherent in every human being from the beginning. To live in harmony with this Source requires the ability to receive and to give consciously, in balance and gratitude, with the awareness that everything flows from one origin.

Faith, in this sense, resembles a rising sun: when it awakens within a person, the divine becomes perceptible in everyday life. Without it, the soul resembles troubled water; with its presence, love arises, followed by ascent and inner peace. Reaching this state, a person becomes like a spring—sharing abundance continuously. To receive and to give ceaselessly becomes the essence of love, just as a spring endlessly shares the water drawn from the depths of the earth.

The textile work At the Spring constructs the image of the spring as a layered inner landscape. The dark, meandering upper layer follows the structure of the human brain and symbolizes rational thinking with its repetitive, often negative loops, forming a mental labyrinth through which the eye and mind must pass. Across and beneath this structure appear white embroidered lotus forms—quiet signs of spiritual awakening.

The green underlying layer represents the spring itself and is created through hand stitching that imitates pastel drawing. It carries a soft, vibrating quality, as if movement and color are rising from within the textile. In contrast to the strict logic of the upper layer, it introduces flow, breath, and organic rhythm. The three-layered structure speaks of a movement from mental confinement toward inner clarity and circulation. Purification here is not sudden, but a slow, attentive passage through thought and resistance toward a living inner source.

The choice of green accepts the spring as a mirror reflecting surrounding nature. Nestled among trees, the spring receives its color from them, becoming their essence. The metaphors of the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil emerge as a foundation of the work. In occult traditions, green is linked both to material desire, but to balance, healing, and inner peace, too. As part of a diptych created for the international project Хilaku (Spain), addressing the theme Voices through mental health, loneliness, and biodependence, this textile focuses on the “ecology of the soul, of the Spirit.” By distinguishing the primitive green of good and evil, the work points toward a higher octave of green at the Tree of Life—growth, renewal, fertility, the heart chakra, and the eternal cycle of balance and healing.
